Welcome to the Ripple’s Website.
Here you can find stories and articles published by students at the University of Leicester’s independent newspaper.
We report on a variety of stories, focusing on local, university centred news. Our articles cover a wide range, from student politics and opinion to entertainment and lifestyle stories.
As of 2025, the UoL Press Society began the journey to revive student journalism at the University of Leicester. Our student paper has gone by many names over the years, including Galaxy Press and Leicester Student News, but now we have chosen to relaunch under our founding name, Ripple, that started everything off in 1957. Between the relaunch in September 2025 and now, we have formed a passionate committee and welcomed many new members. One of our proudest achievements is the launch of our “Ripple” website and Instagram page, filled with developing news, culture and student experiences from our university.
The goal of our relaunch is to give students a creative outlet, writing about university life in Leicester and creating stories that matters to them most. We were frustrated to see no one advocating for students on campus and longed for the days of old when student newspapers were relevant and trusted. This is why we are confident that as Ripple develops, you will be able to use us as your trusted news provider for all things UoL related and much more.
If you’re interested in seeing one of your articles featured on the Ripple Website, or want to be a member, reach out to us at: (su-uolpress@leicester.ac.uk). There are so many reasons to join the student newspaper; you can hone your skill set in writing, editing and content creating, build your portfolio and enhance your CV, all whilst meeting various likeminded individuals.
