Leicester City Deducted Points

Leicester City’s men’s team have been deducted 6 points in the EFL Championship for breaching spending rules.

The points deduction was recommended by an independent commission, which found Leicester to have breached Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in the 2023/24 season, when Leicester were promoted from the Championship back to the Premier League.

Leicester have dropped from 17th to 20th in the table, remaining outside of the relegation zone on goal difference. Blackburn Rovers, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield Wednesday sit below them.

According to a statement by the Premier League. “The Commission found that the club’s refusal to provide its annual accounts to the Premier League by the relevant deadline was a breach of Premier League Rules”.
“It has also dismissed a claim by the club that it had demonstrated exceptional cooperation throughout the proceedings.”

The club are considering an appeal. According to a statement from Leicester, “It is with disappointment that Leicester City acknowledges the independent commission’s decision and the club will use the time available to consider its next steps”.
“We are now reviewing the decision in full and considering the options available to us. We remain committed to engaging constructively and ensuring that any action is fair, proportionate and determined through the appropriate processes”.

The penalty is the latest in a series of setbacks suffered by the club in recent years, which most notably include two relegations from the Premier League. The deduction adds further pressure to an already difficult season, with manager Marti Cifuentes recently being sacked by the club on 25th January 2026, the day after losing 2-1 to Oxford United, who sit in the relegation zone. The club are currently looking for a new manager, with former player Andy King temporarily filling in as caretaker manager.
